Antibiotics in crisis
Why are more and more people today turning to natural remedies rather than
antibiotics?
Most antibiotics are designed to be lethal to a group of pathogens. But because of the way they work, most, if
not all, man-made antibiotics suppress the immune system.
In addition, the overuse of these drugs has been responsible for empowering a host of resistant microbes. As a
result, a whole crop of “Superbug” germs are completely unaffected by modern antibiotics.
Because of microorganisms’ mutations in defense, antibiotics hardly create therapeutic effects any longer. A
bacterium’s antibiotics receptors don’t form. Bacterial immunological genes are a factor too. The bacteria have
returned with a vengeance because they are moving targets. If just one in a population of a billion develops a
random gene mutation that allows it to survive an antibiotic attack, it passes its immunity off to its
offspring.
For example, some of the microbes that first developed immunity to penicillin did so by altering the shape of
the cell wall target to which the drug normally attached.
Over the years the pharmaceutical companies have responded with antibiotics. But the microorganisms kept upping
the ante by altering their own defenses with immunological genes.
The “Superbugs” are able to cooperate with each other to resist the antibiotics by exchanging small
self-copying loops of DNA called plasmids. These organisms contain “jumping genes” — bits of DNA that pop from
one microbe to another.
“Bacteria are not separate populations, but part of a vast, interactive microbial world.” Says Stuart Levy,
M.D. of Tufts University.
Bacteria replicate at blinding speed inside the body and can quickly pass on their genetic armor to their
offspring. Some of these “super microbes” mutate into a “multi drug-resistant strain.”
INFECTIOUS VIRAL DISEASES
Viruses are unique organisms in that they are near the center of the entire process
that comprises life. Unlike pathogens that are attacked by the host’s immune system and cleared from the body as
waste products, viruses often enter and remain in the body’s cells. As long as they are part of a human host,
viruses threaten that person’s state of health.
If left alone and not endangered by an adverse environment, viruses are almost immortal. There is a chemical
ingredient in the leaves of olive trees — the salt of a leaf’s chemically reacted hydrolysis product, elenolic acid
— called calcium elenolate. When released, calcium elenolate is virucidal. If calcium elenolate has been absorbed
into a host's tissues, the virus can’t invade cells because it’s killed by the presence of this virucidal
substance.
Herpes
In 1969, Haraold E. Renis, Ph.D., a virologist with the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan, proved that a
compound of oeluropein in the olive leaf is virucidal for all viruses against which it was tested. In particular,
he showed that calcium elenolate kills the herpes virus. Dr. Renis wrote, “We have found calcium elenolate to be
virucidal for a broad spectrum of viruses in vitro."
More than two decades later, the findings of Harold Renis were upheld by three biological scientists working at the
Laboratoire de Pharmacognosie in Rennes, France. They found in 1992 that all of the herpes viruses were inhibited
or killed outright by the active antimicrobial ingredients in the olive leaf.
Viruses and “The Common Cold”
Rhinovirus is responsible for more than 40% of cold symptoms. It is actually a family of more than 120
cold-inducing viruses and can be blamed for most of the 250 colds an average adult suffers during a lifetime. It
scorns antibiotics but is very definitely killed by taking capsules of olive leaf extract.
The “Flu”
As reported to the American Society for Microbiology in August 1975, olive leaf extract inactivates all
myxoviruses, the germs that cause a lower respiratory tract infection known as the “Flu” which may arises from any
one of three different influenza viruses.
Upper Respiratory Infections
It is also used effectively to prevent or kill off an existing infection with the parainfluenza viruses that cause
croup, bronchial disease and viral pneumonia.
THE YEAST SYNDROME IN ALL OF US — CANDIDA
Invading yeast colonies do their damage by releasing powerful chemicals, toxins characteristic of the
Candida organism. Hence the poisons are called canditoxins, which may be absorbed into the bloodstream, causing
widely diverse symptoms.
Decades ago doctors identified Candida albicans as a frequent cause of vagina, mouth, throat and
gastrointestinal tract infections. Now it’s well known to invade almost all body parts, organs, tissues and
cells. The organism is believed to be a complicating factor in severe pathological conditions.
A specific singular treatment has been needed for the yeast syndrome, and finally it has been found.
Olive leaf extract is applicable to systemic candidiasis. It is more potent a treatment than any commonly used
drug and natural remedies.
